City of SeaTac, Wash. (Feb. XX, 2009) -- A pre-fabricated steel pedestrian bridge was installed at Sea-Tac International Airport on Jan. 31, 2009 that will connect travelers to the Sound Transit LINK Light Rail station and planned SeaTac City Center.
Mowat Construction Company used a 550-ton crane with a 116 foot boom to place the bridge over all lanes of International Blvd. and the northbound lanes of Airport Expressway. The Sound Transit station is located near the main parking garage of the airport at S. 176th Street in the City of SeaTac.
“The City of SeaTac has an exciting plan for connecting our community to the airport with a vibrant City Center in the neighborhood directly adjacent to the Sound Transit station area”, said Craig Ward, City Manager for the City of SeaTac. “The pedestrian bridge is a very visible step in the process and there is much more to come.”
Sound Transit will launch light rail service between downtown Seattle and Sea-Tac International Airport in late 2009. The ride from the airport to downtown Seattle will take 36 minutes and the service will run from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m. daily.
